Hanging Carrots, and a Pineapple Plant

Hey everyone, I have been wanting to try this out for a while, and with my princess home sick, I thought a REALLY quick project would be fun. Pineapples were on sale so we bought one. We love pineapple. I've seen houseplants being grown from vegetables and fruits before, so I just had to try it out myself.

Here I just cut off the top of the fruit, trimmed all the flesh, leaving only 3/4 inch of the core. Placed it in a vase, and done. According to what I read on the net, this should start growing roots, and when the roots are several inches long, it's ready to be planted in soil.

Next up was a carrot top, hollowed out, and made into a mini vase. You can see I made 2 small holes, and hung it from my light fixture in the kitchen next to my window. Fingers crossed, that these things grow, pretty cool they do, and I can't wait to show you guys the pics then. Of course so you can stop laughing, which I don't blame you for doing right now. Ok enough, get up of the floor, and stay tuned OK. This might just turn out really cool.

Looks pretty cool doesn't it. The pineapple looks so cool, I think, that even the vase is shaped like a pineapple. The carrot should grow upwards covering the carrot, and only a pretty fern like plant will be seen. The carrot vase is really small, I didn't have any HUGE carrots, mine are organic, and they don't come that big, so make sure to keep water in there AT ALL TIMES.

Ok, off to clean, cook, and give my princess another breathing treatment, she has bronchitis, and is wheezing, but doing so much better than yesterday, thank goodness.

Oh and have you guys noticed blogger has a new picture uploading format, or something. It used to be that before I would upload my pics one by one, which I hated, but when you go back to add another to your post, all the pics you uploaded were there. Now, you can upload more than one, which I love, BUT, I don't always want to add all selected at the same time, on my post, and when I go back to add the rest, THEY are GONE, and I need to upload them again. Any suggestions, am I just weird, and doing something wrong, please come forward with all info. It's just something new, I noticed, and just wanted to see if you guys noticed this too.

As always ENJOY!

Special requests, or mad love always welcome:)

  1. Cute idea! On blogger, the pictures are not gone, they are in your picasa file. Just click on "From Picasa Web Albums" on the left side of the pop-up. Scroll to the bottom and your photos should be there. The only down side, this houses all of your blog photos that you've uploaded, so sometimes it takes a minute for everything to load. Good luck!

My photo
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, and baking. In fact my mother and I have been making cakes for over 30 years. I also love gardening, traveling, and all things crafty. I struggle daily to keep my like organized, along with my never ending battle to keep the house clean. I adore my three kids MOST of the time, and can usually be found doing the mom thing from morning till night. I try to catch a few mommy moments, but those are hard to find in this wonderful life of mine. I am blessed and happy, and am thrilled you stopped by today :)
