I love playing with playdough, and my kids love it even more.
When was the last time you actually played with it?
Do you know what I love even more?
Making my own playdough.
It's easy, fun, the kids love to help, and you can't beat the smell, the price, and the fact it's completely non toxic, and safe.
So here's the recipe I use.
(I can't tell you where I got this from, I've had it for years, and if you just google recipes, you will find it ALL OVER the place)
1 c flour
1 c water
1/2 c salt
2 tbls cream of tartar
2 tsp oil
(I add cinnamon, and vanilla to mine)
Put all these ingredients in a saucepan, and simmer on med.
STIR, STIR, STIR
After about 3 minutes, it starts to clump, and pull away from the sides. This is when you take it off the heat.
Then let it cool a bit, and start to knead it, WELL. The more you knead it, the softer it will be.
Your hands will be super soft after this this too, and it smells soooo good. You will love it.
Just be warned, my pics, and playdough, turned out kinda lumpy today. I guess I was trying to hard, lol. No seriously, I let it start to boil, before I stirred it, and you are supposed to stir CONSTANTLY, so you mix all the ingredients well. Ooops, no biggie, I just had to knead it longer than usual.
As you can see, they love creating all kinds of things. Usually they are cooking something, making pizza, bread, stuff like that, with the occasional snake thrown in for good luck, I suppose.
I hope you go make some for your kids, they will surely thank you for it, and while you are it at, try your hand at it too. I promise it's super fun, and relaxing!!

Love this idea, what a unique thing to add cinnamon and vanilla. We just tried peanut butter playdough and it was a huge success so this will definitely be our next project!
ReplyDeleteif you haven't tried it (and your kids don't have peanut allergies) I would recommend it! you can find it here http://www.simplemomsolutions.com/2011/03/peanut-butter-playdough.html
